Soaring Dreams with the Declining Airfares

I was recently planning a surprise vacation for my parents. I was looking at a bunch of destinations but the process of searching for good airfare for so frustrating. I was almost on the verge of giving up when I happen to overhear a conversation between friends at a coffee shop.

“I have got it. I have understood that travelling is my passion. It is so much fun to visit new places, learn about their culture, try out their cuisine and make some memories. You know just like the hero from the movie yeh jawani hai diwani says – Mein udna chahta hun, girna chahta hun bass rukna nahi chahta.” Said Suraj.

Dhiraj asked, “Then what is stopping you?”

Suraj said with a glum look, “The travelling cost to the destinations.”

Dhiraj said, “That is not even a reason to frown over. Cheer up. I think we all can share whatever we know about travelling with you and I am sure it can help you run for your dream.”

“Like what?” Asked Suraj

Dhiraj said, “If you pre-book your flight instead of going to the airport and taking a last-minute flight, you can save some money. There are some great websites like Skyscanner, momondo, kayak, and google flights that gather data from more than one airline and we can compare and find the best prices ticket.”

Akshay added quickly, “Also, if you do all of this on an incognito browser, the cache is not saved so that adds to the discounts you get on the prices.”

Onkar interrupted, “The direct flights and refundable flights are costlier. Try to get connecting flights and non-refundable ones.”

Suraj asked, “But which airlines are these? Are they even comfortable?”

Shoab who was silent all along finally joined the conversation, “ I know about Indigo flights. They are cheaper and comfortable for the journeys.”

Akshay asked, “But aren’t they still in profit? How can they keep the prices low and still make profits.”

Shoab, “They implemented something called the sale and lease model. In the initial days of the Airline industry whenever other companies purchased Aeroplanes from Boeing, Airbus company wants to compete with Boeing. Indigo Airline took advantage of it and purchased Aeroplanes from Airbus at a cheaper rate as compared to other in bulk amounts. They sold these Aeroplanes to 3rd company with profit and again took those aeroplanes from them on lease for 5-8 years. The main advantage behind this is that Indigo is not the owner of the Aeroplane, so they don't need to pay tax and maintenance charges for it. Selling Aeroplanes and saving on extra charges ensures a steady money inflow. This is the main reason Indigo Airline remain profitable. So they tend to make a profit even when their cost prices are low.”

I was listening to all these facts and smiled in my mind. I started my journey to build a brand when the market was low. I am sure I will be able to come out more substantial now. I started implementing what I had just learned. You know what, I was able to find the best possible deal and I was very happy. I guess it all comes down to a  little bit of knowledge and a whole lot of implementation to learn a new thing. I just learned how to get cheaper tickets for my next travel. Where are you travelling?
